Do-Re-Migos

A cross between a family music class and a kindergarten readiness experience, classes consist of singing, dancing/movement, and musical exploration with pitched and non-pitched instruments.

Budding Virtuosi

Beginning-level instrumental music class. Students learn to hold their instrument, pluck and bow first-position pitches, and open-string/first-position scales and songs. Classes have 9–11 students. Each instrument family performs at least once a year.

Jammers

Early intermediate-level instrumental music class for students who can bow and pluck both G and D1 octave scales. Students learn more advanced lessons such as dynamics, an increased range of notes, up to five different scales, and more complex songs/pieces. Classes have 7–10 students. Each instrument family performs every semester.

Overture

Advanced intermediate-level class focused on developing ensemble playing, technical proficiency, and personal artistic assessment. As the level preceding the Orchestra, students advance to playing 8 different scales, have sight-reading ability at Level 3, and are self-sufficient with tuning, taking direction, and are prepared to work collaboratively with a stand partner. The Overture Ensemble performs each semester.

Orchestra

Led by Music Director Mr. Joseph Alcocer, the Ypsilanti Youth Orchestra prepares and performs an array of repertoire to continue advancing individual and ensemble skills. The Orchestra performs three to four works on the fall and spring concerts.
